Little Rock City is one of the premier destinations for boulderers and climbers alike. It lies just outside Chattanooga and is waiting for you to conquer the amazing amount of problems that it has to offer you. Little Rock City was closed until recently, when the landowner and the SCC worked out their differences, so I am including a list of all of the rules and regulations, so that you can be sure to follow them, ensuring that this climbing location can stay open.

Little Rock City / Stone Fort is on private property. Use your best judgement and avoid any behavior that could compromise our opportunity to climb there. Please abide by these rules which were set forth by the landowner and encourage others to do the same. Your cooperation is very important for keeping LRC / Stone Fort open.

Rules and Guidelines:

  • As of July 1, 2010, Montlakemade the follwoing changes that will affect protocol and fees for visiting Stone Fort/LRC Climbers will no longer need to pre-register on the SCC Website to park or climb. However, ALL CLIMBERS WILL BE REQUIRED TO SIGN-IN AND PAY $3 DAY USE FEE UPON EACH VISIT.
  • Climbers will continue to sign a Climbing Liability Waiver on their first visit. The waiver will be kept on file at Montlake. This waiver will continue to be available for download on the SCC Website and Montlake will also keep blank waivers available at the clubhouse.
  • There is no longer a parking fee.
  • There is an opportunity to purchase a year pass; the cost of the year pass is $120. The year passes will ‘run’ from July 1 until June 30 the following year. All year passes can be purchased at the Montlake clubhouse and MUST BE PURCHASED BY JULY 1ST OF THIS YEAR. All climbers who purchase a year pass will still need to ‘sign-in’ and display a photo id upon each visit. Year passes will be offered for purchase again in June/July next year. If you are interested in purchasing a year pass please visit the Montlake Clubhouse prior to July 1. The fee for children 10 years and younger will be $1. (The new price is more affordable than the previous rate ($5/car) for ‘lone boulderers’ ……and the year pass will certainly reduce costs for local climbers who frequently visit the boulderfield. If you visit Stone Fort/LRC more than 40 times a year (several folks visited more than 100 days in the past year) then this should be a good option to consider.)
  • All other general rules for visiting Stone Fort/LRC will remain the same:
    • Everyone entering the property must download, sign and turn in a Liability Waiver to the golf course Club House. This is a one-time process.
    • Park only in areas clearly marked as "Climber Parking".
    • No Dogs
    • No Camping
    • No Loud Music
    • Maintain a Low Profile (no yelling/swearing)
    • Stay off the Golf Course and Fairways
    • Always Yield to Golfers
    • Shirts must be worn in parking lot and clubhouse
    • Climbers should make every effort to stay on trails (avoid shortcutting the trail system).
    • Place crashpads/packs on durable surfaces (rock and ‘hard pack’ areas directly below the boulders... not on plants).
    • Montlake requests that you pack out what you pack in to the boulderfield.
    • The community also asks that you consider carrying a trashbag with you on each visit to collect any trash that you find.

How to Receive Access
Currently only 35 climbers are allowed into LRC daily, with 20 parking passes given out. To climb there, you must do the following:

  1. The day prior to climbing, create a log-in on the Southeast Climber’s site.
  2. The day wanting to climb, WAKE UP AT 5am (no later!) and log-in to the site. Click “Get a Pass” and state if you need parking or not. (Note: I was visiting the area during Christmas break so perhaps there were more climbers than usual. All I know, is there were days when all the climbing passes were taken by 5:12am.)
  3. Park at the furthest side of the parking lot (furthest from the boulders) as this is the climber parking area.

Hotels and Lodging
Several hotels are located throughout Soddy Daisy and Chattanooga.

Little Rock City is very easy to locate as the boulders surround the Montlake Golf Course. From downtown Chattanooga, head north on US-27. Take the Chickamauga Dam exit and then follow the signs for the golf course.
